F.A.Q.

  • Absolutely! Is it smart? Ummm probably not…. but people have been doing this for centuries. Every year tens of thousands of people just like you do polar plunges in order to raise money for great causes. So you will be in good hands. Plus, we will have the amazing North Kingstown fire department coming and watching and being on hand in case of an emergency.

  • Great question! We will most likely still have the event if it rains since we do have an indoor facility. Check the website for any changes to the event.

  • The group putting on this Plunge is called Sojourn. We are a group of college students at RI College and the University of RI that believe in living in community, seeking justice, and exploring faith. We consist of students from all walks of life. Some are religious while others have never stepped foot in a church, but we all believe life is better together as we try to make sense of the world around us. If you are interested in what we do check out our website here.

  • Definitely wear warm clothes to the beach. It will be cold out. Just make sure you wear your bathing suit underneath so you don’t have to change once you get here. In the water you can wear whatever you want… though we do recommend sandals with straps or old shoes. Your feet will be so cold you probably won’t be cautious as you are sprinting out!

There are changing rooms there in order to change after the plunge so you can stick around and enjoy the games!

  • You can make the check out to Sojourn. We will then write one big check to INH after the plunge. Remember, 100% of the donations go to International Network of Hearts . You can give at the event or online at this website.

  • We understand that this is not for everyone, but the main reason we do this is to help a great cause. The only thing better than not plunging is watching other crazy people do it. So come watch and donate some money for a great charity. There will be lots of games, food, and prizes so come and enjoy. And bring lots of friends!!!

  • There are a lot of different ways to raise money. The easiest is simply coming and giving a donation. We encourage 35 dollars because it gets you a free beanie, and the more money we raise the more that can go to INH. Other ways include asking your friends to donate for you to do this. You would be surprised how many students would give money to watch a friend do something as stupid and exciting as this. Getting $5 from 20 people could put you in the lead for raising the most money. Check out our resources to help you raise the most money you can. You can also give online on the Donate page.

  • Definitely bring a change of clothes because you will want to stick around for the party after you jump in. We will have a raffle, give out lots of prizes, hand out awards for best costume, and of course, have amazing food! Bring a towel to dry off and whatever else you need to keep yourself warm. ALSO, MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR DONATION.

  • Of course! The Cold Spring Community Center is a big place with great facilities.

  • Glad you asked. This is so much more than just jumping in the water. We are trying to make this an event for everyone. Between 11:30 am and noon there will be registration as well as fun games to play, fire pits, and coffee. Around noon we will have a welcome/instructions and then we plunge! Afterward, we will enjoy a Rhode Island staple… Iggy’s hot warm clam “chowda,” doughboys, and clam cakes. Also, there will be music and a raffle for prizes and so much more.
